This is Handcrafted History

I’m Linda and Handcrafted History is my business, with historical clothing, accessories and handcrafting tools as my main focus.

I travel all around Sweden (and abroad) holding workshops and teaching about historical crafting. I also make historical clothing on commission, for companies, reenactors and museums.

On my blog, you’ll find inspirational photos, stories about my historical adventures as well as good advice on sewing techniques and free tutorials: https://handcraftedhistory.blog/

 The environment and ethical statements:

  • I aim to make garments that last for a long time, that stand washing, mending and wearing, for you and the environment!

  • Washing and production are made with mild detergents and no added chemicals.

  • I prefer to buy materials/items from local, national or small-scale businesses. This means that stocks may vary depending on access.

  • The wool is mulesing-free.

  • No furs from commercial fur farms. I offer fur from homebred rabbits, reused fur or fake fur.

  • Leather comes from Swedish vegetable-tanned leather, from Sw. livestock, minimising chemicals and transport.

Handcrafted History- what does it mean?

If you translate “Hantverkat” (my old blog name) to English it means handcrafted in the meaning of (often useful and well made) things made by hand, by real people. It´s hard to give the word a true meaning while explaining it in English because it’s also connected to the Swedish handicraft tradition with “slöjd” and the tradition of “doing things by yourself”.

The word “historia” (history) means both history as in a-long-time-ago, but we also refer to fairy tales or stories as “histories” (“I´m going to tell you an amazing history”) which gives the word a wonderful double meaning; handcrafted historical objects and technics, but it also means telling stories by crafting and wearing these items.

By creating fantastic things we’re actually telling stories; with our choices, with our hands, with our actions and decisions. What kind of story do you want to tell by making and wearing historical garments?
